      The invention of written communication was a massive development in human history. Sumerian cuneiform is over 5000 years old and competes for the title of oldest written language. The invention of writing allowed human technology to be propagated, spread, and development on a scale like never before.

      Planes, being able to travel by air. Purely selfish reasons as it means I can travel the world. And I do realise that means my carbon footprint is large. But I try to make it up with other things. Like my meat consumption etc.

      How about phones with internet access. Having an almost limitless supply of information from all over the world, right at the tip of your fingers, no matter where you are. Its pretty amazing, and has revolutionized the way we communicate, think, and behave.
