Well, it’s quite clear that not everyone hates him. He got enough votes to win the election in the US after all. He just believes different things to some people and they don’t like it. He’s different from the usual “politically correct” leaders that we’ve been used to seeing for so many years and it scares people, I think. But people who don’t have any involvement in or don’t really understand American politics aren’t really in a position to comment, I don’t think. And that includes me so I shall sit on the fence!
Donald Trump is a very influential man in a great position of power. Unfortunately he lacks all of the characteristics required in the president of the USA. He is a very vain man who repeatedly attacks the press for reporting the truth because it makes him look bad. He has displayed disturbingly racist and sexist views, when he should be promoting equality. He does not believe in climate change even though there is a huge body of evidence out there. The decisions he makes affect a great deal of people but they tend to be based on prejudice, outright lies and questionable values.
Maybe I’ll just add that one frustrating thing, as a scientist, is the denial of climate change. Unfortunately, we don’t just get to pick and choose which science we believe. There is only one science, in a sense; at least when science has reached a consensus. If you believe your computer and phone and GPS and medicine and nuclear power and satellites all work, then you also believe that climate change is real.
While its important to question things, even very established things, its also important to be reasonable and think about the utterly magnificent amount of data supporting climate change, not to mention the thousands of climate change scientists that think about this every day.
