• Question: how much does your work benefit people and in what way??

      The method I work on is still in the early stages of research, so unfortunately it has not benefited many people yet. Hopefully in the next few years, the method will become more reliable, and therefore more popular, and doctors will use it to make better diagnoses of the type of cancer that people have. This will help doctors figure out the best treatment for them.

      I work in a hospital everyday. Sometimes I’m making sure people stay safe, sometimes I’m making sure patients get the best quality medical care possible (within my field), sometimes I’m improving the quality of care we can provide. Its hard to quantify how much my work benefits people, but everything I do ultimately is for the benefit of patients.

      I’m researching new MRI scanners and technologies- which ultimately will end up hopefully hospitals in a few years. We have to improve our methods and check everything is safe first, then we need to do clinical trials which can take many years.
      It should give better images and potentially quicker scan times (which saves money for the NHS)

      I work in radiotherapy, where our main aim is to destroy cancer, so I’d say that’s pretty beneficial 🙂 we treat hundreds of patients a day.
