• Question: How does physics help sport ?

      It allows us to understand the most fundamental parts of science. From there we can build up to more complex things like the biology, anatomy, and sports science.

      The friction between a runner’s shoe and the ground. The stresses on muscles and bones that cause damage. The aerodynamics of a swimmer’s suit. The flight path and curvature of footballs and golf balls. We need to understand physics, first, before we can even hope to understand these things.

      Physics can help in the development of materials (such as shoes), as has been previously suggested by some of my fellow scientists in answer to a similar question (about swimming I think).

      Looking at forces means looking at physics! Forces mean movement. Better understanding means better movement! yay!
