While I was doing the few extra years of school to get my phd, so that I could do research science, all my friends were getting “real” jobs and getting paid well and so on. So now that we are a few years down the road, some of them are further along in their careers, own a house, etc. I don’t regret being a scientist, I like it a lot, but sometimes, if I’m having a bad day or something, this fact will get me down.

Not really. I enjoy what I do and I get paid for doing what I enjoy so it’s a bit of a win-win situation, really 🙂

I only regret not going into it sooner. I spent several years working as a landscape planner before going back to university. It’s so nice to finally love my job!

Not really, though I suspect I’d be paid more working in the private sector not doing science. The trade off is that I actually enjoy what I do and i think its worthwhile.

I sometimes regret not moving abroad for one of my degrees as it would have been a great opportunity to live somewhere completely different and learn a new language and culture
